The Lawns
The first trade show, at The Lawns in Cottingham, near Hull, is Europe’s largest caravan trade show and generally features more than 160 new touring caravans and about 180 caravan holiday-homes, lodges and park homes from most of the major British manufacturers, as well as an ever-growing number of supplies and services exhibitors – showing everything from awnings to steps, security products to soft furnishings, etc., etc.
The show attracts about 3,500 trade visitors from throughout the UK, and many parts of Europe and Scandinavia – and sometimes even further afield.
This show is open to the public during the weekend prior to the trade show. The annual Caravan Extravaganza gives enthusiasts from all over the UK their first opportunity to see the new season’s models. A massive accessory shop is set up within The Lawns Centre; there is a small funfair for children, hamburger and other food stalls, including ice-creams, and all sorts of other entertainments to make this a fun day out for the family.
Beaulieu
The second HERCMA event, on the Beaulieu estate in the New Forest, Hampshire, takes place two weeks after The Lawns. This is the main caravan holiday-home show for the south of England and features many of the “static” models already seen at The Lawns – over 130 – but no touring caravans or motor caravans are displayed. Some of the firms which exhibit at The Lawns book space at Beaulieu too, along with others, and each year there is something new.
Following one trade-only day on the Thursday, this show will open to the public as Holiday Caravan 2009 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, giving visitors three days to peruse the models and also a chance to see the various other attractions that Beaulieu has to offer – a separate admission charge applies – such as the National Motor Museum, the old Beaulieu Abbey, and Palace House, home of Lord Montagu and his family.
